Food Allergies and Eosinophilic Esophagitis

About Roo's Allergies

Roo has multiple food allergies as well as an allergy-driven auto-immune disorder called eosinophilic esophagitis, which is sometimes abbreviated EE, ee, or EoE.  His traditional food allergies include peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. He currently avoids peaches and beef due to the EoE, but previously avoided dairy and apples too. Thankfully he seems to be tolerating both of those these days.

EoE is a complicated disorder and like many families struggling with this disease, we've had many highs and lows. Roo has endured numerous upper endoscopy surgeries (scopes), allergy testing, specialist appointments, therapies, drugs, and more. You can read more about our experiences here:

Last but not least, Roo is allergic to cats and feathers. To date he is the only member of our family with food allergies, though Mufasa is allergic to bees.

  6. While it’s easy to think that everyone has some sort of food allergy, not all who suffer from it are free from something more serious – eosinophilic esophagitis. As it is pretty new in terms of diagnoses, make it a habit to take it up with your allergist, internist, pediatrician, or general physician. Visit http://studyscavenger.com/ClinicID/74415/ORBIT
